“What they say? Don’t put money to your ear? Oh, I didn’t hear that.”
Jay-Z’s 4:44 contained many lessons for rap’s younger generation, but one particular line about the popular “money phone” pose has garnered a considerable reaction. “Y’all on the ‘gram holdin’ money to your ear,” said Jay on “The Story Of O.J.” “There’s a disconnect, we don’t call that money over here.”
It’s already been speculated that Future had a subliminal response to the line, and now Drake has come with his own light-hearted take on the criticism.
Drake was eager to hear Jay-Z’s 4:44 album the night it dropped, reportedly requesting the project to be played over the speakers in a Baltimore restaurant he was eating at. It’s often been speculated that Drake and Jay-Z have taken subliminal shots at one another on record, most recently with a few vague bars Hov rapped on DJ Khaled’s “Shining.”
